Birthday DS

I got a Nintendo DS lite and two games for my birthday today from my boyfriend! Yay! And we're going to see Golden Compass later today!

Now if the DS would just finish charging, I could test it out!

OMG, I forgot your birthday. I even got a reminder on my phone and everything. Curses!

Anyway, Happy Birthday!

You lucky girl! Not only do you get to watch the Golden Compass weeks before we here in the backward third world get to (aha, but we didn't have to travel to another country to see Serenity!), but you also get to pass the time with a Nintendo DS!

So, what games did you get?

Thank you!

I didn't really like Golden Compass, I thought the dialogue sucked quite often, for example...

Yeah, I opted to watch Serenity on DVD instead of traveling to a neighbouring country to see it, which sucked. Oh, and we don't get Sweeney Todd until February. When can you see it?

I got Animal Crossing (this animal village sim thingie) and Cooking Mama (a cooking came, yes). Then I bought Zoo Keeper (puzzle game) for myself later on. Now I'm thinking about buying Final Fantasy games (since GBA games work in DS, as well), and Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories.

Finally saw GC a few days ago, and yeah, that dialogue was broader than an aircraft carrier! I was very happy with most of the cast (The gyptians were a bit meh) and the production design was nice and not too over-the-top, but damn the direction was a shambles.

I could stand the 'remixing' of the plot (Asriel being captured by the Samoyeds instead of the bears, the whole Bolvangar/Svalbard switcheroo), but the fact that they got rid of the Roping and the marshes, that Lord Faa's big speech just comes out of nowhere and seems silly, that the whole months of journey in the book seems to take place in about three days... that just didn't do it justice.

I'm currently reading the Subtle Knife (bought the books before I saw the movie after years of staring at them on shelves), and am sort of glad the movie may not get a sequel, because they'd never do it justice.

As for Sweeney Todd, who knows? We're only getting Enchanted at the end of Jan, and Darjeeling Limited is nowhere to be seen. On the other hand, they bring out Z Grade Torture Porn right quick.

I saw Enchanted the day before yesterday, and it was really good! One of my fav movies of 2007 (or 2008 for you).

I don't really remember much from His Dark Materials, it's been a while since I read it... but yeah, I could remember some stuff the movie left out. The place where they kept the children and their daimons didn't feel creepy enough, I think.

And happy New Year!
